The laptop program at Fitzgerald Stat School is designed to help students keep up with the demands of the 21st century. Helping students become responsible digital citizens will enhance not only what we do in the classroom, but also give students skills and experiences that will prepare them for their future studies and career.
Bring Your Own Device(BYOD) is a new pathway supporting the delivery of 21st century learning.
It is a term used to describe a digital device ownership model where students use their personally owned device to access the department's information and communication (ICT) network.
The BYOD acronym used by the department refers to the teaching and learning environment in Queensland State Schools where personally owned mobile devices are used. At Fitzgerald State School the 'D' in BYOD represents a personally owned Windows Laptop; it also includes software, applications, connectivity, or carriage service. Android, MacOS and iOS are not supported. Mobile phones and other portabl digital devices are exclude per our Student Code of Conduct.
We have chosen to support the implementation of a BYOD model because:
- BYOD recognises the demand for seamless movement between school, work, home, and play
- Our BYOD program assists students to improve learning outcomes in a contemporary educational setting.
- Our BYOD program assists students to become responsible digital citizens, enhances the teaching learning process and achievement of student outcomes as well as the skills and experiences that will prepare them for their future studies and careers.
Currently at Fitzgerald State School, the BYOD program is limited to Laptops. In 2024, students in Year 5 and Year 6 will participate in the BYOD program, ensuring it meets the required specifications.

In the first week of Term 1 Year 5 and Year 6 students will be provided with their EQ Username, Password, a complete step by step guide on how to enrolling their BYOD laptop and the Fitzgerald State School BYOD Charter for 2024.
