Interschool Touch Football – Term 1
What is it? Touch football between the local schools from the district.
Purpose? For students who are interested touch football and making new friends while they develop skills.
Prior experience? NO! Students of ALL skill levels welcome. Beginners to experienced!
Who is involved? Students from Year 3 to 6. Students in Year 3 and 4 play together and students in Years 5 and 6 play together.
When does it happen?
After school on Wednesday at the Mackay Touch Football Fields. It is organised by Mackay District School Sports.
MDSS John Paap Shield Rugby League – Term 2
What is it? Rugby League competition between the local schools from the district.
Prior experience? YES! Student have the opportunity to trial for the Fitzgerald SS team in term 1.
Who is involved? Students both boys and girls aged 11 and 12
When does it happen?
After school on a Wednesday in Term 2. Games are organised by Mackay District School Sports.
Representative Sport Trials
Fitzgerald SS is part of the Northern Suburbs Sub District. For many sports students trial firstly for a Northern Suburbs team which go onto the Mackay trials. If selected in a Mackay team, students then trial for the Capricornia team. Capricornia teams attend state carnivals where students can then represent Queensland.
What is it?
Trials for students to participate in representative sport. Our levels are: Fitzgerald State School, Northern Suburbs District, Mackay District School Sports, Capricornia and Queensland.
Purpose? To give students who have a skill in their chosen sport a chance to play against equally skilled players and be a representative player.
Prior experience?
Yes! It is for students who have experience in a given sport.
Who is involved?
Students who are 10, 11 or 12 years of age with the appropriate skills and experience.
When does it happen?
Trials begin at the start of first term and go throughout the year. A calendar is available on the MDSS Facebook page.
