Choir
Joining a choir provides many opportunities and benefits.
- Choir is an extension of Classroom Music, encouraging students to discover the joy of singing and music making as well as develop and refine their skills and musicianship.
- It gives children an opportunity to perform and express themselves in a supportive atmosphere.
- Encourages students to build resilience and perseverance as well as foster positive teamwork skills
- Teaches responsibility, discipline and commitment through regular attendance at rehearsals and performances.
We have two choirs at Fitzgerald State School:
- Junior Choir – Years 3 and 4
- Senior Choir – Year 5 and 6
Rehearsals:Tuesdays – Junior Choir – 2
nd lunch and Senior Choir – 1:30pm – 2:00pm
Thursdays – Senior Choir – 2
nd lunch and Junior Choir – 1:30pm – 2:00pm
Recorder Ensemble
The Recorder Ensemble offers many benefits for students, including:
- Extension to what is learnt through Classroom Music
- Encouragement to discover the joy of music making as well as the opportunity to develop and refine their recorder playing and musicianship
- Giving children the opportunity to perform and express themselves in a non-threatening atmosphere
- Encouragement to build resilience and perseverance as well as fosters positive teamwork skills
- Teaches responsibility, discipline and commitment through regular attendance at rehearsals

Instrumental Music
At Fitzgerald State School we have two programs, Strings and Brass, Woodwind and Percussion. The school offers various ensembles for performing, including the String Ensemble (2nd, 3rd and 4th year students), Beginner string ensemble (1st year students only), Concert Band (2nd and 3rd year students) and Beginner Band (1st year students only). These ensembles perform in various setting during the school year, including the school's Cultural evening and Mackay Eisteddfod.
Strings – in Year 3 students are offered the chance to participate in the string program, by learning the violin, viola, cello or double bass. Student recruitment and parent meetings take place in Term 3 each year.
Woodwind, Brass, Percussion – in Year 4 students are offered the chance to participate in this program, by learning the flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, tuba or percussion. Student recruitment and parent meetings take place in Term 3 each year.
